About Joys and Trials

"Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me." ~Micah 7:8 (KJV)

Christmas is just about here.

Almost Christmas here. Planning on getting a few last gifts for people this Friday. Hoping Sean won't have to work that night, because if he doesn't we're going to go see the Hobbit. Can't wait to see it. I already want the soundtrack, and that's just from watching the trailers.
Been watching Doctor Who lately. Just started finished the 10th doctor, and on to the 11th. I'm torn between which I like most, the 9th or 10th, and not sure what I think about the 11th yet.
My results from the sleep study were normal, although they did say it does take me quite a while to fall asleep...which I already knew, and don't like. Follow up with my doctor about it is going to have to be put on hold, as well as that dental work I need done. Sean's gotten into academy here, and that's going to cost quite a bit, though it'll be well worth it, but between the fees for that and the dermatology appointment that I have in January, and whatever tests will be done at that time, we can't quite afford to follow up with the sleep study.
I'm pretty sure Ayla's growing again. Going to have to make naps a must each afternoon for a while. Sanatra's getting so big, and still such a chunker. He managed to scratch Jessa's eye today, so she's not been online much. Hoping that recovers quickly....although she managed to fall down the stairs today, as a result of her eye hurting. She winced from pain, closed her eyes, and didn't stop moving, thankfully it was only a few stairs, but now she may need a doctor visit for both her eye and her foot that was injured in the fall.

Ayla's got several songs she sings or hums a lot lately. These are the ones I can think of...I had counted six earlier, but now I'm drawing a blank.
1) The Itsy Bitsy Spider
2) Ode to Joy (Beaker style from the Muppets)
3) When He Cometh (aka Jewels)
4) Mahna Mahna
5) Jingle Bells

Ayla's learning to peel a boiled egg, she's able to do it after I get it started. Lately she's been asking "why you say no (insert object or end sentence)?" She's figuring out the concept of friends versus sisters, thanks to some help from the new Tinker Bell movie.
I really need to get her piano lessons. She was standing with Mom, our friend Paula and I as we were practicing the song we're going to be singing next Wednesday night at church, and had her foot tapping right along with ours keeping time. She's learning so fast, it's still scary at times.
Still dealing with the biting of her toe and finger nails, not sure how to curb that habit, but am always open to ideas. She is doing awesome with the potty training, though we've had a few accidents, she's been sleeping most nights in panties instead of a pullup and waking up dry. She's been pretty clingy lately when I take her to the church nursery, even though she'll talk up to that point about needing to play with her friend Bella. Hoping that stage passes quickly too.
Other than that, not much else is going on. I hope we'll get to see the Hobbit this weekend, and looking forward to spending time with family. Jessica's birthday is tomorrow...I guess that means she and Bubby both need two gifts. December birthdays....sigh. Sean's in that category too, so guess I'll have to figure that out soon. Jessa's going to be 22, Bubby's going to be 21, Sean's going to be 28, then Ayla's 3 in January, and I'm getting closer to 24. I still find that hard to believe. Doesn't feel like we're that age already...can't believe my brother is going to be 21. Time's just flying by. That's it for now. We'll post again come January, cause we don't buy into the 12.21.12 end of the world time stamp, so have a great December 22nd, and a very Merry Christmas (or whichever Holiday you celebrate)!!!

December is here!

"Jingle bells, jingle bells" is what Ayla likes to walk about saying since we got back from Thanksgiving at Grandma's in Oklahoma. Preparing for Christmas, and I bought some jingle bells for her, as there was a dozen for a dollar.  Bought a little 4 foot artificial tree. Had to buy ornaments for it, as only 4 of the ones I owned were light enough to hang on it. So all my other ornaments are still in storage until the time we get a bigger tree.
Fits perfectly on my little octagon table. Decided we're not going to do much of Christmas here. We'll be celebrating with Sean's family on the 22nd, the 23rd is church, and then going to do brunch and spend the day with my family on Christmas day. She'll live with two Christmas's. Not going to buy her anything till after Christmas, so we know what she gets from family, and I'll probably have to go through her old toys again to make room.
Singing the 26th with Mom, and our friends Paula and Trish at church. Only about 2.5 weeks to learn a new song, but looks like the one I found, we're going to learn pretty well.

Going in for my sleep study tomorrow night. Mom's taking Ayla during that. Should be done before church Wednesday night. Taking a few movies and books to keep me entertained during the test Wednesday.
Started watching Doctor Who, beginning with the 9th Doctor. I've found I can't watch it while Ayla's awake, as even though she doesn't get what's going on, some of the episodes may freak her out, so finishing up what I have from the library Wednesday. Going to have to see if mom and dad's library has any Doctor Who, as mine goes from 9th Doctor to 11th Doctor. Kinda defeats the purpose.

I think Ayla is growing again. She's moody, and with a growing vocabulary, she's able to express herself better, though still as adamant as ever about what she wants.

As promised, we got the family pics taken, and had a few taken of Ayla and Sanatra together. Hard to believe that little chunker is 5 months now. So here they are.

Ayla's learning the concept of friends and sisters thanks to the new Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings movie. Ayla is still a huge mommy's girl, but she's very loving when she's in the mood.
Jessa's birthday is coming up soon. We've decided before New Years, we're going to have mom babysit, and we're going to get away for a day. Probably just window shopping and spending holiday money, but we need a day to us, and neither of us would do much aside from clean if we were to spend the day at home.
Looking forward to it, because as much as I love my family, I need a day to get my sanity back sometimes.

Even though we're into December already, we'll be lucky if we get any snow. December 3rd was a 73 degree day. December's month forecast is averaging days in the 40's, subject to change, especially since our weather people don't seem to be able to forecast the weather, I'll believe we'll have snow when I see it falling and sticking.

That's about it for now, I think. I'll have to get Jessa to post soon, specially since Sanatra is 5 months now, and half Ayla's size. *^_^*

November's coming to an end

Had family pictures taken last Saturday, by Wendy from LOL Photography. Of course, that morning I decided I would be getting my hair cut, which happened tonight. It's now a chin length bob cut. Hoping that not having as much hair will help the scalp issue to clear up.
Have one more dental appointment set up before the year ends. Consultation with the Neurologist is done, have a sleep study scheduled for December. Will do an overnight, and depending on the results of that, may or may not do a continuing test the next day. As I was filling out my forms for the consultation, I decided to ask a couple of aunts on my biological father's side if they knew of any family medical history. None to do with neurology, but others that I didn't know of, and one that can actually cause fatigue unchanged by sleep, called "sarcoidosis". I'm honestly hoping we'll find a cause during the sleep study tests, because the tests for the sarcoidosis would eventually entail biopsies, and depending on where the sarcoidosis is, that could be a lot of trouble. Most the other medical history is heart problems, high blood pressure and diabetes. We'll be keeping an eye on our kids as they get older for diabetes, as several family members have Type 2 and don't fit the normal profile. That really must run in the family, not "fitting the profile" for something. I was told I don't fit the profile for sleep apnea......but then I was told I don't fit the profile for gallbladder problems either, and that was exactly the problem.

On a different note, packing and leaving for Oklahoma tomorrow to go see Grandma Pat and Papa for Thanksgiving. Dad, Mom, McKey, Ayla and I on a 400 mile car ride. FUN! (not) It will be good to see them. Then back home Friday night, so that Ayla and I can make it to dinner with the Stockton side of the family on Saturday. Ayla keeps asking to see Pawpaw and Grace, so it'll be great that she'll get to see them in a long while.
Ayla's vocabulary is constantly growing. She's saying "thank you" and "you're welcome" a lot more, but still have to work on the "please". She likes saying "of tourse" (of course) in response to a question. She's gotten black dress shoes, that just happen to make that tap noise when she walks on flooring aside from carpet, so she loves putting them on, and tapping around the kitchen. We really need to get her into some sort of dance and/or gymnastics class.
Waiting on more picture releases from LOL Photography, and then we'll share a few watermarked images with all of you. :)
Bed time soon, it's been a long day, and tomorrow's going to be even longer.
Save travels to everyone traveling for Thanksgiving this week, and may you have an awesome holiday.

Super Brownies from "Taste of Home Cookbook: Cooks who care edition"

Prep: 20 min Bake: 55 min + cooling

1/2 cup butter, cubed
1-1/2 cup sugar
4-2/3 cups (28oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
3 tablespoons water
4 eggs
5 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups coarsely chopped macadamia nuts or pecans, divided (I didn't use nuts)

1) In a saucepan, melt butter and sugar over medium heat. Remove from the heat; stir in 2 cups chocolate chips until melted. Transfer to a mixing bowl; beat in water. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla.

2) Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; beat into the chocolate mixture until smooth. Stir in two cups of chocolate chips nd 1 cup of nuts. Pour into a greased 13x9-in baking pan. Sprinkle with remaining chips and nuts.

3) Bake at 325 degrees for 55 minutes or until center is set (do not overbake) Cool on wire rack. Cut into bars.
Yields about 3-1/2 dozen.

**Note: I didn't use nuts. I used marshmallows, just threw some in. Marshmallows will keep the brownies gooey after the 55 min. I also didn't have 28oz of chocolate chips, I only had about 23oz...so I didn't sprinkle any on top.
If you make these, let me know how they turned out.

"Super browines" with marshmallows inside

Am planning on getting more chocolate chips to remake this one sometime the right way, but still without nuts.

Also wanted to share a pic that our mom took of us when we were at her house, October 26th.
Brandy and Ayla on the left. Jessica and Sanatra on the right.

If you make the brownies, let us know how they turned out, and what you did differently, if anything.
Have a great weekend!

November 6, 2012

Presidential election day in the States, got my vote in, hoping for the best. I will be so glad when tomorrow is here.
Ayla and I are fighting colds again, we've spent the past week stuck at home, and it's driving me nuts. Jessa says when we're better we'll have Mom watch Ayla and Sanatra, and get Sean out of the apartment and just clean like crazy. Hoping we can manage that this weekend. Family pictures got postponed until November 17, as I got sick the day we were supposed to have them done. However it does work out well in one way, Mom will get to get some pics of all four grandkids together. So after they're shared with us, I'll share a picture or two from LOL Photography of everyone.
Found a fingering guide for the viola, that I ordered pretty cheap, and planning on starting to teach myself when that comes in.
Ayla's going through a fear phase, she's afraid of the bathroom and the bedrooms. Pretty sure it's because they're dark, so we've got a projector nightlight for her room, and considering putting a Dream Lites on her Christmas list with family. Week of Thanksgiving, Ayla and I are going with my parents and Mckey to see family in Oklahoma, and back in time to have Thanksgiving dinner with Sean's family that Saturday.
Ayla and Sanatra October 25th.

It's gotten cold here, and I hate the cold, and with fall comes rain. I hate being cold, and I hate being wet, so being both is misery. Have pretty much been stuck at home lately, especially with being sick. Thankfully, Jessa and Sanatra, and our friend Dani come visit us when we're not sick.
Had to buy some magic erasers as Ayla colored on the wall behind my couch. Those things work great, someone needs to find out what's in those and tell me so I can make them myself...
I think Ayla's going to have a bunch of toys disappear when we clean. She doesn't play with 95% of them.
She's gotten better at expressing her opinions, and the attitude is growing. Her fear of the bathroom (she's not afraid of the tiolet, she has no problem flushing it) has led to many pairs of panties being changed because she'll hold it so long...working on that. I let her know when I'm going, and usually she'll go then, and that's helped. Still asking her if she needs to go. Can't wait for this phase to pass, but I guess it could be worse.

Other than that not much else is going on.After the apartment is cleaned thoroughly, and as long as I'm not sick again, I'm going to find a way to get a "me" day. I need it.
Hope you all have a great week, stay warm, and try not to get sick.

Fall is here

Looking out our patio door, the closest tree has lost all the leaves on it's top branches, while the leaves on the lower branches have finally turned orange.
We've finished one bout of illness, hoping to not have anymore. Ayla's still biting her nails. She chewed her toe nail down so far it bled. Any ideas or tips on how to deal with that? Smacking her mouth when I see her doing it. She doesn't like that, or the pain from the short nails, and yet she still does it.
Her vocabulary is growing everyday. Her current phrases are "I show you something" and "what hapted?"(what happened), "dat cose" (that was close). She's started to ask about monsters and spiders at night, though thankfully she doesn't freak out terribly and is fine once I say they're not there and not going to get her. Maybe we shouldn't have watched Monsters and Aliens? She loves Megamind though. Her other favorites are Barbie and Tinkerbell. Yes, I'm waiting for the new Tinkerbell movie to come out this month so we can get it for the set, though we seem to have lost one of the current three movies we have.
That's another thing. She's fully capable of taking DVD's out of the player and putting a new one in. She has yet to figure out the remotes (thankful for small favors?).
We went to the park yesterday. She had a blast on the slides. We had the entire playground to ourselves, so glad she's capable of entertaining herself. Followed a walking trail up and around, found a picnic area. Ate lunch there, and let Ayla play with the leaves and dirt before I walked home. She got to ride in the stroller. Thankfully the walk home was down hill till we got to the subdivision. Really need to get out more with her, just wish our weather would decide what it's going to do. But that's Missouri for you.
Got my wood-burning tool, and started figuring that out. It's actually pretty interesting, though I prefer the one tip over any of the others. Mostly due to the fact that it moves easier on the wood. Decided that since we do "secret sisters" at church, and reveal and draw new every 6 months, that I would give my secret sister an item that's been pyrographed for her reveal gift this December. I've already got it planned out, at least for the most part. Hopefully the printer at my parent's place will cooperate and I can print out the needed design. Otherwise I have to install my chosen font on mom's computer, and I'd rather not do that to her.
Ayla's still entirely a mommy's girl, especially just after waking up. She is trying to spend more time with Sean. Her bed time is still sometime between 10 and 10:30 pm as Sean is still on nights. Last week he worked days, so that was interesting.
Found a website with resources for teaching left-handed kids how to form their letters. Can't wait to be able to order stuff for Ayla, who is definitely a lefty with some ambidexterity.
She's doing great with potty training, only a few accidents anymore. So great, as we're not buying as many pull-ups  She's only in those at night now.
Going next Friday to get pictures taken by our friend Wendy over at LOL Photography. It'll be family pictures of Sean, Ayla and myself, as well as a few of Ayla and Sanatra together. We'll definitely be sharing those with you all.
Not going to the Halloween lock-in at the college nearby that's being hosted by the club Sean and I were members of when we attended (guess we're more like alumni currently?) as it's the same night as the pictures. Not only that, we don't really do Halloween, so it's not a real heart breaker for me, or Ayla since she's not done anything Halloween-ish before.
Other than that, can't think of much else. Thanks for swinging by, and I'll get after Jessa to post an update on her end soon.

Sept. 30 Update

Had the appointment with the opthomologist this past Wednesday. I have astigmatism in my left eye, and he thinks the double vision is caused by a mix of overpowered lenses and strabismus. So it's new lenses with prism that have to be paid for out of pocket since the previous lenses were from April. Apparently, strabismus is what my brother Mitchell had surgery on his eyes for when he was an infant. Thankfully, my strabismus is not at the point that I need the same. New lenses when they come in, are to be worn for 6 months, full time. I go back in April for a follow up. Kinda dreading the full time part. I love not having to wear glasses anymore. Oh well.

As of today, Ayla's been running a fever since Wednesday. However, aside from the fever, a runny nose, some congestion and a hoarse voice, she's doing pretty well. She's still in a good mood overall. Virus been going around here, so pretty sure it's that. Not much doctors can do for that, so it's ibuprofen, tylenol, chest congestion meds and plenty of cold liquids.
Ayla's discovered she can curl her tongue. An interesting thing passed on through genetics, though as far as I know, my mom is the only one in our family who can't do it. We get it from our biological father apparently. She's taken to calling me "Mommy" as opposed to "Mom" which she had been calling me. I really find the "Mommy" rather annoying, as it sounds a bit whiny. Oh well. She's learning fast and growing. She's doing well with the potty training since we went straight to underwear during the day and pullups overnight. Still has a few accidents at home, but that's mostly cause I get distracted and don't remind her, though even when I do she'll ignore it. She has a tendency to hold it so long that she can't make it to the toilet in time. Also having to deal with her biting her nails. Haven't quite figured out how to combat that one yet.

This falls starting out rather rainy, a huge switch from the almost drought like summer we had. Mold count is up and is driving allergies crazy. Ayla's not been bitten by any more mosquitoes lately, but that's due to the fact that she's been inside more. She loves dancing as much as ever, and her vocabulary is growing, gotta work on her "L's" and "S's" though.
That's about it for now. Hope everyone has a great day!

My dates are screwed up. It's another week for anniversary and eye doc. >.<

Happy Hunting Season!!

Gen 1:28  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  (KJV)

Was reading some articles online against Corey Cogdell being a trophy hunter in the Olypmics, and posting pictures of her kills. I know a lot of hunters, and I like shooting guns too. So even though I am more for only killing what you're going to eat, rather than collecting and hanging heads on your walls, the responses she received were beyond overboard. You can read them too over at PAGunBlog.com.

So, I just want to say good luck to all hunters out there. Hope you get some decent kills this season. To our local hunter friends: send us some deer sausage?

So, now an update on Ayla and Sanatra. Ayla seems to have a mosquito allergy. So going to get some of the mint planted at my parents place and put in a planter here at our apartment. Ayla can now count to 10, although she stumbles over the number 7.

Sanatra is growing big, and starting to look around more. He's starting to smile and attempts to giggle at things. Ayla loves spending time with Jessa and Sanatra. She tends to get jealous, but in an odd way. She wants me to hold Sanatra and for Jessa to hold her. She's a funny goofball.

Sean and I will be married two years, come tomorrow (9-25). Wednesday, I get to go back to the opthomologist, to have my eyes dilated. Fun. Going to find out my true vision, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get new lenses again this year. Ayla went for a cleaning at the dentist and did well. No new cavities, and she did well with getting x-rays taken. Ayla loves seeing the doctors, and always climbs into the laps of the ones we see. She doesn't really know a stranger. Kinda scary, but at the same time, we're not fighting about going for check-ups and such. She got bit by a spider last week, but it didn't get too bad, thankfully. We get to see Jessa and Sanatra today, and Mitchell for a little bit as we take him to work. Ayla can now say "Mitchell", so we no longer have to call him "Bubby" to avoid too many "Me-Me's".
Rain's been more constant within the last month, after a hot, dry summer. I know we need it, but I hate getting wet. :p

Will try to get Jessa to post an update from her end soon.
Hope everyone has a great week!!!

Hi from Brandy!

Into August now. Sanatra is growing and doing well, and Jessica and Jeffery are absolutely in love with him; as is everyone else. Pictures of him were taken by our friend Wendy over at LOL Photography, if you have Facebook, click on the green text to see the photos of him at two weeks old.
Sean, Ayla and I have moved, though we're not completely unpacked yet. Ayla's vocabulary is growing everyday, and she's growing taller all the time. I'll honestly be surprised if she winds up a shorty like me, I definitely think she's going to get a good deal of height from her Dad.
Couple of weeks ago, I cut my thumb with a vegetable slicer, and wound up getting three stitches. I threw the slicer out, and am back to using a good old knife and cutting board. It's healing well, but still can't use that thumb for much even though the stitches are now gone. I had an MRI done a few days ago, trying to find the cause of my double vision. Thankfully the MRI came back normal, the next step is getting a second opinion from another opthomologist. It may just be lazy eye, but the double vision is terrible when I'm driving or sitting through church services, and although I have a great pastor, it's no fun seeing two of him while he's preaching.
Other than that, not much else is really going on. Need to have Jessica post an update and some pictures for you all. As always, thanks so much for following us!

The Life of Mrs. Jeffery Barthel :))

So I'm married now! Have been for a month as of tomorrow. :)) We had a wonderful wedding, it was perfect actually. :) We had green and pink everywhere. We did the ceremony underneath an arbor that Nana, Pop and I decorated just for the occasion and it had this lovely, romantic feel to it. Nana's niece's husband George was our minister for the wedding and did quite well. Mom even had a caterer come do the food. We had sandwhiches, fruit, veggies, fruit bars, tea and lemonade. Then Mandi made us some wonderful cupcakes and a cake for the guests and ceremonial cutting. :) Our friend Steve Dj'd for us and got everyone dancing, including the Cupid Shuffle, Chicken Dance, Electric  Slide and several others. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to see everyone that came out for our special day. <3 After the wedding Jeffery and I went down by the St. Louis Union Station Marriot hotel for our wedding night, courtesy of Penny and his Mom. :) It was super nice and so nice of them. For dinner we went to the Hard Rock Cafe, Jeffery had never been. We went home the next day to spend time with the relatives from out of town before they left. It was a busy and hectic weekend, but it was also fun, being able to spend time with everyone and it was our wedding weekend!! :D <3 And so far marriage life isn't too different for us. ;) We are happy and love the fact that we are officially a family now. And in about 11 days, give or take a few depending on how anxious he is, we will have a new addition to our family. :) July 6th will be here before we know it! The baby shower was this past Saturday and it was a great turn out. I'm thankful to every that made it! I got pretty much everything I needed for the lil one's arrival. And got a lot of cute outfits and toys and blankets that he willl just lov. :) My belly is so big tho, everyone thinks I'm going to pop early. Tho the doc told me last week my cervix isn't doing much so he personally doesn't think I will pop early. But we won't really know until it happens! I am so ready and can't wait to be done with being pregnant! lol I want to lay on my belly again, fit into normal clothes and hold my lil man. :) I think he will have his daddy's nose and I hope he has his eyes. :) He is going to be so precious. Jeffery put the crib together and I finally got all the baby stuff put away, so we are ready to bring him home. And I have my hospital bag and his diaper bag all packed for when we have to rush to the hospital. :) But we will probably be staying at my mom's for a 3 days to a week after we leave the hospital. I will need some help adjusting and dealing with things that Jeffery might not understand or know how to help with and I'd feel more comfortable if my mom is there to talk me through it. I know Nana and Pop are willing to help me with everything, but there are some things you just need your Momma for. But other than all that...the our lovely cadillac is messing up and needs to be sold...we are thinking about buying my parent's old van from them, its in decent shape, has plenty of space and has A/C!! And we think that the tires mom n dad bought as our wedding present should be able to fit on the van which would be a major plus!
That should be just about everything for now though...sorry it took me so long to post, I get distracted easily. :) I will do my best to post shortly after the baby arrives and perhaps even post some pictures. Won't be too much longer! I can't wait! Thanks for reading!! <3 <3

Jessica's baby shower is tomorrow! The OB says Baby Barthel is no bigger then 7lbs, and thinks Jess will deliver on time, or a day or so late. We'll wait and see what happens. She's babysitting Ayla for me today so that I can get some cleaning done. Taking a break at the moment to eat and give you an update. Sean and I will be moving during the month of July closer to his main job. We've set it up so that we'll have the entire month to move, it was his preference, not that I mind, since it means I won't have to rush in packing and cleaning. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can get rid of this move.
The rent at the new place is the same as what we pay currently, but it's a bit bigger, with a separate utility room (currently the washer and dryer are in the kitchen in the current apartment). Another great thing is that Sean could walk to and from Esselte if he really wanted to. Church on Sundays will probably require me borrowing a vehicle from my parents or staying the night at their place on Saturdays. I'm sure it'll vary with the weekends.
Ayla's now speaking in three to five word sentences. Though there are still times I have no idea what she is saying, and trying to get her to say certain words properly doesn't work too well. Cup is "bep", milk is "thilk", Ayla is still "ah-ah". Though thankfully she doesn't get "ss" and "sh" sounds mixed up once she knows which is which for words, such as "sit", "seat" and "shirt". Can't complain too much, since I know she is learning. She's still stubborn and ornery. I have no idea where she gets it from.........
I am a little sad that the move will be taking me from our current city as I am the only Master Gardener in Pacific, and there are a number of MG's in Union. I will continue to help the PCGG in ways I can, especially concerning Arnold's Garden and such.
About time to get back to my cleaning. Just wanted to let you all know how things are going currently, and that things are going to slack off again with Baby Barthel's due date drawing near and us moving.

I know bees are beneficial to the environment, and I enjoy honey, however after this week, I'm building a real dislike for bees. Apparently we have a wood (carpenter) bee nest somewhere around our apartment and they were getting in through holes they'd bored in the outside walls. We've killed about a dozen, and I found more dead. Finally found the inside entrance which was caulked with mortar caulk and the nearby access panel screwed close for safe measure. We've gotten lucky and none of us have been stung by one. However, I'm not willing or inclined to fill Ayla's 3-ring pool so she can play with that while there are still bees buzzing round our "yard". Which is really a shame, because I know she's enjoyed the few times she has gotten to play in it. Hoping this will kill out the nest, though it'll be even better if the landlord would get someone out here to remove them, or kill them off. The one guy working on the outside of the apartments and the one who caulked up their hole is aware of them and is going to get some spray, I hope it's enough.
It's really nice to not hear anymore bees buzzing in the apartment, but I think I'm going to shudder every time I do hear a bee buzz. Bees may now be my second most disliked animal, grasshoppers being the first, and spiders the third.
I had to vent a bit. I hope you all have a great summer, and no bees.

Picture shows, from left to right, Brandy (me), Jess, Jeffery, Mitchell (Bubby), Alice (Mom), Joe (Dad). Ayla had passed out and was taken home by Sean by the time the pic was taken.

Ayla was the flower girl in the wedding, Mckey was the ring bearer. Bubby was Best Man, and I was the Matron of Honor. (I had to keep correcting Jess on that one.)

Jess's wedding is done and she only has about a month left before the baby comes. Now that we're done with the wedding, we get to start planning the baby shower. I will be so glad when this summer is over, it's just too busy. Jeffery lit up the day before the wedding when I pointed out that the next day he would be Ayla's Uncle.
I'm taking Jess to the OB in a few hours. I think we're just about down to weekly visits now. Baby shower is due to be near the end of the month. Hopefully Baby Barthel doesn't come earlier than the shower date. Thanks for continuing to watch for updates!

Latest news (again)

Jess's wedding is drawing close, two weekends away. Hard to believe my little sis is going to be a married woman soon.
She and Baby Barthel are both doing good. She goes to the OB again today, Jeffery and Mitchell (Bubby) are going with her.
Jess was kind enough to come over yesterday to give Ayla a bath for me, since I'm sick.
I had a tooth pulled last Thursday, as it was $300 cheaper than a root canal, and we have enough medical fees to pay as is.
Sunday evening I had chills and was cold to the touch, by 9:30pm after wrapping up in a quilt and drinking some hot chamomile tea, my body temperature spiked to 103*. Joy. Went to doctor yesterday, since my temperature was fluctuating between 101 and 103. Doc says probably strep, even though test was negative, with how red my throat is, it's more than likely is. So I was given a z-pack (azithromycin), I am hoping it'll work, cause I don't care for trips to the Doc or being sick, as Ayla doesn't care if I'm sick.
Fever's down today, but still spiking towards 100* occasionally, taking ibuprofen for fever and pain. Hurts to swallow, so sticking to soft foods, really want some teriyaki chicken that I cooked though.
Ayla's cutting molars and is moody as anything. She wants to eat the food off my plate, and is mad at me cause I won't share, but I don't want her getting sick with whatever I may have. So she's currently throwing a fit, and won't touch her chicken and green beans, though she likes both foods. Can't wait for this to go away.
Other than that, not much else is going on. Going with Jess tomorrow for a finally dress fitting so it can be extended to fit over Baby Barthel.

Sorry bout the lack of posts. Things will definitely pick up again once the wedding is done and Baby Barthel is here, and I still have to work on that lavender post. I think it's nap time for Ayla. Till the next post. :)

busy busy bee

Such a busy busy month its been!! Had my Bridal Shower last Saturday, it was a lot of funn and I'm so thankful for everyone that showed up and brought gifts. Though I keep forgetting to get Thank You cards done! Oops! ;) Brandy and Mom worked so hard to prepare and decorate and make all the food so yummy. :) I helped out, but in all honestly, it couldn't have been done without them or Dani! Now to finish getting ready for the wedding, I cant believe I'm actually getting married in a month and a few days! O.o I'm not scared, slightly nervous cuz there will be so many watching. ;) But I'm getting married to the man I've completely fallen in love with and I couldn't ask for anyone better than Jeffery. :)
On another note, Nana and Pop bought us a bed!!! Its sitting out in the garage right now! I can't wait til its all put together and in the room! But I haven't finished painting yet... :/ Been feeling a lil too under the weather to do so and slightly too busy. Then after the walls are painted and the bed is in, time to find a crib!! :) Tho I don't even know where to start looking, I hope we find something perfect!
Since my last post, we have also purchased a 1999 Cadillac Deville. :) It's big, its smooth and it's green! lol I've been driving around like a madman doing errands and taking Jeffery to work. Its so much easier now that we have a car! Tomorrow we are going to hopefully get Jeffery a new license, he just has to pass all the tests. ;)
Jeffery, Mitchell and I have also started up on GED classes again. And what is really neat is that even though its been over a year since our last class there, we all scored Higher this time than last time!! Made us feel good. Bubby (mitchell) is almost ready to take his test, but Jeffery and I will need some more time, but that is ohkay! Im struggling with math and Jeffery is struggling with reading. But I have a feeling when the time comes to take the test, we will all do rather well.
Im roughly about 28 weeks along now, give or take a few days or whatev. And my o my has my belly grown! ;) I feel my lil man moving more and more everyday! It's kind of scarey but at the same time, amazing. :) I'm glad to know that he is doing well. I go to the doctor for another check up next Wednesday, the 25th. I have to start going every 3 weeks now and shortly after it'll be every 2 weeks and before I know it every week! I can't believe how much time has gone by and how close everything is to finally happening. :)
I'm sorry it has taken me so long to post again and I'm sorry to admit it will probably be a while before I get to post next time. Just so much to do and I keep forgetting about little things like this. I'm trying to keep track and make time for everything, but apparently this is only the begining, so Im trying to get ready! lol
Well thank you for reading up on me and I will try and make my next post a little bit sooner than last. :)

Latest news

Sorry about the lack of posts on our end. Things are a bit crazy, and are going to stay that way till after Jess's baby is born. I will try to do better with posts though.
Had Jess's bridal shower. Went well, but am definitely glad it's over. Now, onto the plans for her wedding day.
Haven't even begun the post on lavender, regrettably, but I know if I start before I have time to finish it, I'll never complete it the way I want. Still working on the spreadsheet for the PCG Arnold's Garden. Need to finish that up too. I'll get on it. I gotta do dishes too.
FINALLY got a new laptop. I'm already loving it, mostly just cause it's MINE! *^_^*
Have a Nook that I'm getting addicted to, too. Just need to get a KJV bible on there and I'm set. Need a bigger purse too.....It won't fit into my current one, and since Ayla's down to a small backpack for whenever we go out for the day, it won't fit in with her stuff anymore either. That's alright though.
Now if we can just get the potty training thing to stick. Luckily it's not a terrible thing. Though she does seem to like pulling off a perfectly dry pullup and going in her room to get another. >_< So I just put it back together and save it.
Things have been up and down a bit lately, but are looking more up. Just stressed and tired. This spring is terrible for my allergies, and therefore my asthma. I gotta get a scrub-brush to use in the bathroom. There's mold, and I unfortunately have an allergy to it now. Not cool. Allergy medicine seems to be helping with that a bit.
Jessica's gotten so big with her baby boy. They're debating between two names, and while I admit I prefer one over the other, I'm trying to not use either for the time being. So it's still Baby Barthel for the time being. Just makes it easier, and I know Jess doesn't feel as pressured in regards to the name that way.
I think that's about it. I know Ayla is tired, so I'm going to take the munchkin to bed. Hope you all have a wonderful week.

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

So, it's Wednesday already, and the lavender post isn't even started. The PCGG spreadsheet isn't finished. Not feeling great. Taking my Jessica and Jeffery up to the OB/GYN today. Church tonight. Mom and I are supposed to sing with several of the ladies from church next Wednesday, and we haven't got to practice yet. Mom's working tonight, and going out of town tomorrow, so she's out for practice. Guess the 4 of us will have to practice without her tonight and Sunday.
I am happy to say that after my 5 hours of cleaning this past Friday, my living room is still pretty clean. Which is pretty amazing with Ayla.
Ayla's not feeling great either. This Spring has started off terribly for her allergies. She's mad at me right now, I put orange juice in her cup and won't give her anything else till she drinks it.
Lately she just wants to watch Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses. It's cute the way she tries to mimic the ballet moves. She loves dancing and singing even more. If we listen to music she tries to sing along with it. She's growing up so fast.
Only a week and half left till Jess's bridal shower. Time needs to slow down. Still waiting for the call saying my dress is in and ready for pick-up. We gotta find material to match Jess's dress, cause her tummy got too big. Thankfully we know someone who's willing to work with us on getting it to fit her. Get to have my dress brought in a bit, but same lady will do it for much cheaper for us than the store would.
My laptop screen went out, so I'm on Sean's computer. Getting a new one when we get our taxes back. Am very glad that I bought that external drive a year ago.
I'm not going to say when I'll get the lavender post up, cause I'm not sure. The next few weeks will be a bit crazy.
I think that's about it for now. Thanks for your patience!

Still here

Just letting you all know we haven't disappeared. Busy with shower and wedding plans, and since growing season has started, I'm putting together some stuff for the PCGG.
Next useful item will be lavender. Not sure when I'll get to it, hopefully next week some time. Spending the weekend at mom's.
Thanks for your patience and interest.

Second in posts about benefits and uses of certain items. Today's is peppermint. Another of my favorites!
Peppermint, like lemon, is great for the teeth. So I searched for lemon/peppermint toothpastes. No such luck, however, I did find a recipe for making your own at home from NourishingDays.com. I made myself some, and  have used it for several days. I'm liking it already. However, I don't recommend using a mouthwash such as Listerine and other such ones immediately after. I think something in the mouth was doesn't react well to the baking soda.
Not only is peppermint good for your teeth, it's good for pain relief. After all, Icy Hot and other such products have menthol in them. Rubbing properly diluted mint oil on your forehead is good for relieving headaches.
Peppermint teas can help ease a queasy stomach, great for pregnant women. It can also help ease the pain of menstrual cramps. It is recommended that nursing women avoid using mint, as it's said to decrease milk production.
Peppermint also acts as a stress reliever. In a study, peppermint oil applied to the forehead was found to be just as effective as ibuprofen and acetaminophen for relieving headaches.
Menthol is an expectorant too, the reason why it's put in Vick's and other chest rubs.

Play-doh fun

Got Ayla play-doh. Covered coffee table with wax paper.

Dancing to Disney songs while playing with play-doh

Jess and I had more fun, I think.
Flower, rainbow, broken heart, snowman,
apple, orange, tomato, lemon and raspberry by me.
Bananas, snail, grapes and flower by Jess.

As I promised, I'm going to starting blogging about the different benefits and uses for different things. First will be lemon.
(HOWEVER!!!! I have not tried all the intriguing things I have found, so I don't know for a fact that all of these are true, and some things I will hopefully never be given a reason. If you think you may give try something for a health reason, I recommend talking to your doctor first. Links will be posted at the bottom of each blog post, so that you may go to the same sources and read for yourself. I am currently exploring the information on four websites. Thanks!)

So now, on to lemon. I decided to do lemon due to the fact that I've been flavoring a pitcher of water with lemon slices and drinking that, as for some reason straight from the tap (even through the filter) tastes a bit funny in my opinion. Now it doesn't. I've always liked learning the uses and benefits of foods and herbs before, and decided to look up lemons.
One of the first things I came across in my search results was that drinking lemon juice with olive oil can help get rid of gallstones. I wish I'd known that 2+ years ago, before I started having real trouble with mine. Oh well.
There's some speculation about lemon flavored water aiding in weight loss. I will state, that since I've begun drinking it myself, I have lost weight, and don't really exercise, however, that would be one for you to try and decide for yourself. I just like not drinking plain water.
Put lemon juice on a cotton swab and press to the inside of the nostrils to help with nosebleed, I don't get nosebleeds (thankfully) so I wouldn't know about this one. Though lemon is thought to be a blood purifier and has been used in curing influenza, colds, malaria and cholera.
Lemon is good for helping with sore throats, prevent vomiting and relieving fevers.
Now I've used lemon juice on my hair before to help lighten the color, but just read that it's good for treating dandruff and hair loss as well as giving your hair a natural shine.
One I'm definitely not too sure about, but two of the sites agree that using a drop of lemon juice with your toothpaste is great for your teeth, as well as rubbing lemon juice on toothaches to alleviate pain, and rubbing it on your gums to stop bleeding.
Also can aid in curing UTI's, kidney and other bladder disorders.

Have I spiked your interest? Well, I think post is long enough. Now for the four links.
As always, Green colored text have links hidden in them. (like below)

A little bit of my world :))

Im not quite sure what to write about so Ill just do a little of everything that comes to mind. lol I go to the doctor again next Wednesday, I guess for a basic checkup, they didnt give me much information.  But Im sure Ill have to end up doing more blood tests, which I hate. :/ We are slowling getting the room all fixed up for the baby. Oh by the way, Im having a boy! <3 Nana and Pop are giving Jeffery and I a new bed, the one from Nana's bedroom. I was surprised but I am excited, it will be nice to have a real bed instead of a futon. lol And we are trying to figure out what color to paint the bedroom. Needs to be something bright for the baby and also since there are no windows, it cant be a dark color. Jeffery wants Green and Purple and I want Green and Yellow, but ulitmately its up to Nana. :/ lol And she always picks something odd...lol But I will be happy with anything, as long as its not BLUE! lol I have been feeling the little wiggle around more and more. Flutters as most call them. Jeffery is so jealous he can not feel him moving yet. lol We still havent decided if we want to name him Sanatra or Dimitri. I love them both and its so hard. lol Also trying to get Medicaid, so I wont have to pay 1500 out of pocket. Which is 300 a month until I give birth and it has to be paid in full before I give birth...and I just dont have that money...Jeffery makes about 400 a month if we get lucky but they cut his hours this week so it always varies...so Im worried about that but hope I will get it in time for my next appointment. And we still have to send out Bridal Shower invites and Wedding invites, and neither seem to be happening very fast. :/ And I have a feeling Im going to end up short one bridesmaid....but hoping that wont happen. I found my wedding dress, just hope I dont get bigger than my dress! lol So much to do and so little time!!!!! But Im excited about the wedding and Im excited about our little boy. <3 Everything will work out Im sure, just stressful in the moment. And Grandpa Joe passed away this past week and the funeral was Saturday... Was the long and most emotionally/physically exhausting day I have had in a long long time. I held back my tears almost all day, but when I came home I was just so tired and so worn out I cried and cried and cried... We did have a good lunch with the family after the funeral, but was still a long tiring day. But Im glad that Grandpa is not in the hospital anymore, he just did not want to be there..and Im glad he is with Grandma now...that makes me happy. Ill always miss them both,  but theyll always be in my heart with love. Im just hoping that from here things will go smoothly and i will get everything figured out before the wedding and before the little one is born. So much on my plate and I admit Im not quite ready for it, could have been more prepared. But Im doing my best and I know itll be ohkay in the end. Just everything comes down to money, and we are short on that. lol But Jeffery keeps me cheered up and does his very best to support  me and take care of us and love me. And thats all I can ask for. I love him more than anything. <3

Random Post

This past week was a long one, and a sad one for our family. My dad's dad passed away and we had the funeral Saturday. That was perhaps the longest day of the week, and although we gathered for a sobering reason, it was good to spend time with that side of the family that we don't see often. I really don't have much to blog about. I'm still so tired from last week.
I have been getting to read more lately, which is nice, as I've always loved reading. I finished reading the Ranger's Apprentice series, as it's only 10 books. Sad, as it's a great series, and I can see it being so much longer. I mean, look at the Wheel of Time series. I'm waiting for that last book to be published too. So I am waiting for the local library to get the books I requested in. It's taking longer this time. I'll be starting John Flanagan's second series, which is a companion series to the Ranger's Apprentice. Still reading Donita K. Paul's Dragonkeeper Series. I'm waiting for the fourth book in that one. Hurry up already, library!
I love that I can read books for free, especially nice when you don't have the pocket money to constantly buy books. Which at the same time is good, because Ayla's already tore the back cover off one of my paperback books by Beverly Lewis. *Heartbreak*
Random side note, "tore" is such a funny looking word, I had to look it up to make sure I had it right.
Back on course. I'm really wanting an E-reader more and more. I'll be honest, I know it won't be the same as holding a book of paper and board, but not having to worry bout them being destroyed will be so nice as well....and it'll be easier to take along to wherever, like my sister's OB/GYN appointments.
Do you like to read? Do you prefer actual printed books, or do you have/want a reader? I think printed books are becoming underrated with the new e-books. E-books will never completely be the same as a good old fashioned book. I wouldn't be surprised if they completely quit printing them in a few years, which is a sad thought for me.

I suppose it's a good thing I titled this post "Random", cause I wasn't entirely planning to go on about books, but that's what happened. Oh well. Hope everyone has a good week, as today's only Monday (joy).

Interesting morning

Have you ever read something in a book that sounded like it would actually work? I did today.
Coffee was a bit burnt this morning when I got up, since it was made at 3:30am. I've been reading the Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan and in it, the rangers like to drink their coffee with honey. I'm out of creamer, don't feel like getting down the sugar and the honey's sitting right next to the coffee maker. Why not?
It was actually pretty good. I didn't use much, but it was enough. It took away the burnt taste and made it just a little sweet, getting rid of that bitter bite. I think I'm going to have to do that a bit more often, since I now won't have to waste a pot of "burnt" coffee.
Let us know what you've read in a book, be it fictional or non, and let us know what you thought of it. Whether you liked it, or wish you hadn't bothered with it. We'd love your input.
And maybe some morning when your coffee's just a bit burnt, try a dollop of honey in there and see what you think. Let us know if you like it, or just dumped the pot afterward.

My First Blog

This is my first official blog post, ever. lol I'm not sure what to blog about but I figured since I'm on my way to being a mommy it couldnt hurt. Epsecially since my blog is joined with my Sister's and she has been a mother for 2 years now. Im about 20 weeks along the doctor thinks, but we wont know for sure until we do the UltraSound of Wednesday. Kind of hoping I'll  have a boy, but I wouldnt mind  a little girl either. I'd love my child either way. Hard thinking of names and odd getting used to my body as it changes and moves for my baby. I heard the heart beat last week and it made me happy, helped me realize this is really happening inside of me. I wasnt planning on having a baby for a few more years lol but we all know nothing goes according to plan. I just hope that I'll be a good mommy and make my child and husband to be happy. I'm getting married May 26 to the love of my life Jeffery Barthel. :)) Never thought I would get married so soon either, but I'm glad we are, glad it is with him and glad I didnt make the mistake of doing it with anyone earlier in my life. Im glad I'm not technically a child and I am of age to start taking care of this child and my husband to be. But I know I have a long hard road in front me and I am just doing my best to take it in stride. <3

Books, I love books

Books have always been my favorite past time. I could go hours reading books. Now that I'm a stay at home mom, that doesn't happen as often. But in the past few weeks I have managed to read quite a few books. I guess it helps that I'm a fast reader.
I grew up reading books that my parents read as kids, such as Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien; Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis; and the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony.
Working my way through the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan and a new (to me) series by Donita K. Paul, whom I found through Pinterest of all things. I really enjoyed that first book, DragonSpell.
Growing up, we've grown up with Disney's renditions of the classic fairy tales. I've found a book series that gives those classic tales a new spin. "Once Upon A Time" series is by several authors, and are very well done. There are about 12 books in the series so far, written by Suzanne Weyn, Cameron Dokey, Debbie Viguie, Nancy Holder and Tracy Lynn.

But what do you do when all your two year old wants to do with books is eat them? She eats anything paper, be it cardboard, coloring paper, paper towels, kleenex, toilet paper. She thinks it's the greatest thing to grab a kleenex out of a box and shove it in her mouth. EWW!
Next few days are going to be fun. Doc appointment for my sis today, and shopping tomorrow. Off to get coffee and food.

Things are going to get HECTIC!

I'm not kidding in the least. My little sister, Jessica S, is getting married Memorial Day weekend, and as her Matron of Honor, I get to plan her wedding shower. Trying to keep things as cheap as possible, but oh my goodness! Shower's planned for April 14th currently, and while that's still a few months away, I know with the way the past months have gone by, it'll be here before I know it. So we're already started to work out colors, themes, who we're inviting, what to serve. Still have to find a game, think I found some nice favors that goes well with her "theme". Thankfully one of my best friends is also going to be in the wedding party, and she gets to help me out. Though, being the way I am, most of it's going to be on me. Am very happy for my sis and Jeffery, and can't wait for them to tie the knot *^_^*

Some of you know, some of you don't know. I had all four wisdom teeth removed Tuesday morning. My face is nice and swollen, and I'm currently grateful that I can take Vicodin and Ibuprofen together. ;) I go next Tuesday morning for follow up with the surgeon.
For those of you that live near me, I really, really dislike the Washington Mercy hospital, more so now than before.
My surgery was done as an outpatient procedure on account of my asthma, and the surgeon worried I might have an attack during, as winter is the worst time for my asthma. Had just gotten the IV put in, and they were finishing up some paperwork, before bringing mom to where I was. I had a slight headache, which I had informed the nurse of. It was about a 2 on a scale of 0-10 (zero being none, 10 being major). It started to get worse, and as I was about to let the nurse know, my vision went white, and next thing I know, I have 4 nurses bent over me, one of whom had his fingers digging into my jaw. I'd blacked out and seized. First time for both. Mom arrived shortly after, and while they'd informed her that I'd blacked out, they weren't going to tell her I'd seized, but I'd mentioned the guys fingers in my jaw, and she questioned them. They admitted to it then. What threw them all off was that there was no apparent reason for me to black out. Blood pressure didn't drop before hand, and all the nurses said I'd looked fine just prior to blacking out. I didn't feel nervous about the surgery. I don't like the feeling I get after waking from being put under but I'd done it before and it didn't bother me enough to cause problems.
Surgery went on as planned. All four teeth were impacted, and the surgeon had to cut into the bone to get the teeth out.
We were back to mom's place by 12:30pm, we'd gotten to the hospital at 6:15am for a 7:30 appointment time.
Mom watched Ayla that day while I was out of it. Jess came over yesterday and helped out. Went to church last night, and while I started to doze off a few times, I made it through. Sean's with me today. Jess and Jeffery have Ayla for a few hours. I will be so glad when I'm completely healed, and am very glad that I won't have to go through that experience again.
So meals consist of either room temp, lukewarm or cold foods (I'm eating ice cream at the moment). Still can't chew. Not too keen on brushing my teeth just yet, so might just stick to the rinse for a few days.
Over all I'm not feeling to bad. Most of the 'pain' is pressure based from the swelling. On an antibiotic too for the next few days. I hate taking meds, so I will be glad when I don't have to take any anymore.
That's my current update for now.

Hi from Us!

So, it's been a LONG time since I posted last. I know I said I'd do better at that, but thinks got crazy. Jess is now 21, Mitch is 20, Ayla's almost 2, and her party's going to be big. >.<
Ayla's got croup again this winter. Looks like there's a possibility of it being a winterly thing. Am getting my wisdom teeth removed next Tuesday. Thankfully, Mom and Dad are both off that day, and can help take care of me and Ayla. Jess is coming over the next day to help me with Ayla.
Had problems with our internet modem, as it apparently couldn't handle the speed we'd upgraded to...sad ain't so? So we're renting our modem from Charter now, as we're not willing to go buy another modem, and the company I'd gotten the other from doesn't have a return policy...Anyone need an internet modem? :p It's under warranty until March 2013. o.O
We're still waiting to hear more about the other job Sean's trying to get, and our lease is up at the end of next month. Hoping the landlord will let us go to a monthly deal, but Sean's yet to ask. :/
Ayla's getting so big, and is too smart for her own good.
Tired and ready for bed, and my mind isn't sure where it's going right now, so I'm off for now and heading to my pillows. Will try to do a better job of keeping this updated.
