Baked Apple French Toast

From the "Circle of Friends: 25 Breakfast and Brunch Recipes" by Gooseberry Patch, tweaked to my own preferences.
This requires being prepared the night before, and cooked in the morning.
French Toast
12 slices thick white bread
1 (21oz) can of apple pie filling
8 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups milk
2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, cubed

1/2 cup maple syrup

Arrange 6 slices in a greased 9x13 pan. Spread with pie filling. Top with remaining bread slices.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Poor over bread. Cover and refrigerate over night.

Next Morning: Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Meanwhile place the brown sugar in a small bowl. Cut in butter until it resembles small crumbs.
Sprinkle over the top. Drizzle maple syrup over french toast.

Bake uncovered at 350* for 35-40 minutes. 

makes 6+ servings



This is half a "serving" according to the recipe. It all depends on how you want to cut it, and how much you want to eat. Enjoy!!
